THE LEGACY OF PAUL HALLGRIMSON
Advocate for Cultural & Academic Exchange
Born on July 6, 1945, Paul Hallgrimson was a trailblazing pioneer in facilitating international high school exchanges, primarily in the United States. Throughout his illustrious career as a teacher and mentor, he profoundly impacted the lives of thousands of students and families. His bond with Germany and Europe, deepened throughout his life, profoundly influenced his enduring aspiration to promote cultural and academic exchanges.
In the 1970s, Paul and his beloved wife Maureen, along with their children Daniel, Markus and Kristina journeyed to Germany, where he taught in Grenzach, Germany as an exchange teacher on the Fulbright teacher exchange. This enriching experience fueled his staunch belief in the transformative power of cultural exchange and personal growth that comes along with it.
Through his visionary work, Paul paved the path for countless students to chase their dreams and realize their potential in a globalized world. His passing in 2020 was a tremendous loss, yet his family and friends pledged to uphold his mission. The Paul Hallgrimson Foundation is the fruit of that pledge. Inspired by Paul's unwavering dedication to fostering the growth of young minds, his vision of a place where students from diverse cultures gather to learn, engage, and grow together, we carry his legacy forward, striving to offer limitless educational opportunities for all.

On July 6th, 2022, the date that would have marked Paul Hallgrimson's 77th birthday and his glorious entrance into a well-deserved retirement, a visionary team of dedicated individuals, led by his son Markus, Markus's wife and his mother in law banded together to ignite a beacon of hope: The Paul Hallgrimson Foundation. This compassionate, non-profit organization is dedicated to opening new horizons for underprivileged youth by providing them the extraordinary opportunity to broaden their perspectives through invaluable international high school experiences. Since June 20th 2024 we officially launched the non-profit organization and we started operating in October 2024.

Recipients will receive a stipend for monthly expenses and round-trip airfare.
